Teamwork

The first Tuesday in September 2002. It was Fish's turn to organise the monthly social gathering for Safehaven. As usual, all of us met at Clarence's place.

To promote inter-group communication and marriage, the Safehaven groups were mixed and split into 7 new groups of 7-8 persons per team. Two games were played during that evening.

The first was an ice-breaking game which was intended to help the new group members to know each other's name. Each group was required to form as many words as possible from any two names (e.g. Alan Chai and Sam Tay) in the group. The winning team managed to form 75 words within a short time frame of 5 minutes.

The second was for each group to sing Christian songs or carols with pre-selected target words, such as blessing(s), peace, vision(s), etc. Ten points would be awarded if two or more members within a group was able to sing at least three lines. If only one member knew the song, 5 points would be given instead of 10. It was apparent during the game that some gay men are more musically inclined than others. God is fair. Usually, the more musically inclined ones are the uglier ones.

The scores for the first and second games were added to determine the overall winning teams. To everyone’s disappointment, the winning teams were given food vouchers from Bumbu Restaurant (1st prize), shavers and clocks (2nd prize), shower gel and pens (3rd prize) instead of the promised one/two/three nites with CB or BK.

All prizes were sponsored courtesy of FISH members (and also Shenzi, part of Fish but also representing MAW, as a goodwill gesture to foster ties with Safehaven).

It was another fun time at Safehaven.
