Safehaven's 4th Annual Retreat

Shine Jesus Shine!

Pre-retreat Trip 12-14 June 2002

By Sam

Dawn breaking over Kuala Lumpur

Prior to the retreat on Friday, Ken, Sean and I decided that we would make an earlier trip to Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, each with initially different aims. Ken wanted to do some rock-climbing, while Sean and I were more interested in a shopping extravaganza-aims which we all fulfilled eventually, especially Sean and his bountiful harvest of clothes. However, as the trip progressed, something far more important took over. Yes, Ken got off on artificial rock in Subang, and Sean and I blazed the shops in search of trendy wear. Yet, what we couldn't deny was the Holy Spirit working within us, stirring our hearts and blessing us with a wonderful fellowship with each other.
Ken took the opportunity to prepare his Sunday message, and this got us all into a more spiritual frame of mind. We passionately discussed doctrines, shared personal convictions on different areas of the Bible, reviewed events happening in Safehaven, shared our personal goals and ambitions, and experienced deep bonding with each other. Oh, we had our fun too, especially with wine and a deck of cards. Ken revealed a side to us rarely seen, while we were playing a game of Chor Tai Tee and experienced his verbal repartee. I too revealed a side of myself seldom seen when Ken walked into the bathroom when I was naked from waist down. :-)

All in all, the pre-retreat trip was a great blessing. It renewed our hearts for Jesus, and prepared us for the retreat, entering it with the right frame of mind. I can testify that the pre-retreat trip and the retreat itself have truly spiritually recharged Sean and Ken. In the process of seeking God, He sought us first, and transformed us with His Holy Spirit. He reminded us of His Love through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, and humbled us before Him. Because of this revival, I believe that Sean, Ken and I have made a firmer vow to serve God more deeply and whole-heartedly, be pleasing stewards in His sight, and caring brothers to the rest of Safehaven.
May God continue to guide and direct our paths. Amen.
