Away With God — Safehaven Camping Trip

Pulau Ubin, Singapore

28-29 July 2002

Here are some of the comments we received (edited) regarding the trip:

[Edward] At night after worship, we were all asked a question individually, and the question I chose was "What is the most valuable lesson you've learnt". The answer I gave there and then was unsatisfactory. After thinking about it more, I think I want to give another answer.

I think the most valuable thing I've learnt is about salvation and God. I thank God I knew about Him, and that I managed to share the gospel with my mother before she became too ill to understand. I also thank God that I learnt about Safe Haven, and its many caring members, because they have touched me so much.

[AndrewW] Reaching the jetty was a bit of a letdown. The weeping sky didn't seem like a warm welcome in my perception of things. Yet, wet and soaking, we jammed the jetty, brushing aside the cute guy who was there, the first twelve of us boarded the ferry and over the stormy sea towards our destination.

There was some hiccups when we arrived, basically the idea was the get some makan at the village but not everyone was interested in doing so. We did managed to gather everyone together and got a van towards the campsite.

As I said, I was disconcerted because of the weather but it cleared soon after save for the occasional drizzle. It was only today that i realised how graceful God was. With the clouds, he prevented it from being too hot and yet, he kept the rain away from us during the night while the rest of Singapore had a nice cool shower.

The prime objective of the retreat was to encourage members to know each other in greater detail. That was accomplished with conversations taking place where none had before. It is truly a reflection of society, when we are always on the go & to busy to take time out to give our brothers some words and to learn from each other.

Would like to thank everyone who made this a great trip, to friends made and laughter shared.
